Youth Shaping Youth
Kari had heard about the Shape The Sky community and approached me about wanting to role model and teach responsible use of technology with youth. I’d been wanting to have youth engagement and leadership in the Shape community since the beginning of the movement to “Create Responsible Kids on Smartphones/Devices.” Before we met, Kari had already created her “Get S.M.A.R.T. (Social Media Awareness and Responsibility Training)” and was looking to connect it to an organization that had a similar mission. Kari believed that one of the first steps was for youth to take a pledge to use technology responsibly. I loved the idea of the pledge and encouraged her to create one that kids can take and share with their parents.
Thank you, Kari, for your contribution to Shape The Sky’s mission!

Meet Kari
“I’m starting this pledge because kids are becoming unhealthy and addicted to their smartphones.”
In 2019, Kari Ann Leventopoulos was a middle school student working to raise awareness about the need for guidance for tweens and teens using social media and digital devices. She wanted to spread the message to youth like herself to “Think before you post and unplug to unwind!” She heard about Shape the Sky through her school and attended a training session. With a little encouragement from Shape the Sky, Kari Ann decided to write a pledge to help kids learn how to take control of their time and better manage the way they portray themselves online, thereby protecting their future!
